Importing into Israel – the beginner’s guide: from the first idea to commercial import
7 May 2026 · YOSHI Editorial
Import is a profession – and like any profession, whoever follows an orderly process and understands the rules and the numbers can import with confidence, profitably and with a minimum of surprises.
Step 1: choosing a product that makes sense to import
The most common mistake is to start with “I found a cheap product abroad, let’s import it”. Good import actually starts with other questions: is there real demand? Who are the customers? Does the product solve a problem?
Step 2: checking import legality (even before talking about price)
This is where quite a few beginner importers fall. Not every product made in the world may be imported into Israel in the same way. At this stage you work with a customs broker and a professional goods classifier.
Step 3: understanding the expected costs and business feasibility
This is the stage where import turns from a thought into numbers. You need to build a full import calculation that includes the product price, shipping, import taxes, customs brokerage and regulation.
Step 4: importing samples – a critical stage
Before ordering a container, import samples. The goal is to check the real quality, understand packaging and marking, and fix mistakes cheaply.
Summary
Import is not a gamble, it is a process. Whoever works in an orderly way imports with confidence, reduces surprises and builds a long-term operation.
