Checking demand before import – how to make sure there is a market for the product before you order goods
7 May 2026 · YOSHI Editorial
One of the most expensive mistakes in importing into Israel is importing a product without checking in depth whether it has real demand. The fact that a product sells abroad or looks promising is no guarantee that it will have a market in Israel.
What is real demand?
Real demand is not expressed in likes or enthusiasm. Real demand is measured by one central question: are customers actually willing to pay for the product, and at what price.
Step one: checking the existing market in Israel
The first step is to understand what already exists: who sells similar products, at what prices, and whether they are an official or a parallel importer.
Step two: comparing prices and willingness to pay
Compare selling prices in Israel with the all-inclusive import cost, to make sure the product can be sold at a reasonable profit.
Summary
A demand check is insurance for the importer. It does not guarantee success, but it significantly reduces risk and allows informed decisions before importing into Israel.
